TOMANDO ALIENTO

Watercolor on paper (300gr).

16.3 x 16.3 x 0.1 cm

2025

ABOUT THE PAINTING

I made this painting for an exhibition in honor of Visual Artists' Day, which will be held in Maracaibo. In Venezuela, Visual Artists' Day is celebrated on May 10th, in honor of Armando Reverón, one of our most important painters who was born on that day. The exhibition focuses specifically on self-portraits, which fascinated me, but since the paintings had to be small, I decided to paint something new, appropriate for the size, so I could participate.

I called it "Tomando aliento" (taking a breath) because she's right on the surface, rising out of the water, among branches and petals. When I finished it, I realized it's similar to my painting "Pienso en tu mirá" (I think of your gaze), and I loved that, because now I see it as a continuation. For me, it's like a relief after a time of darkness and uncertainty.

ART SUPPLIES USED

I painted this piece with the lightfast premium watercolors Schmincke Horadam, Sennelier and QoR, on acid free, 100% cotton, cold-press 300gr watercolor paper by the brand Arches. And, at the end, I sprayed this painting with a few layers of Krylon UV resistant coating for its optimal preservation.
