PURIFICA (ESPINAS LATENTES)
Watercolor on paper (300gr).
31 x 23 x 0.1 cm
2025
ABOUT THE PAINTING
For this work, I was inspired by somatization, when our feelings manifest in body language. The crown of thorns around the neck, stuck in the throat, containing what is left unsaid, what we sometimes feel and can't explain, or don't want to share. It tortures me, it purifies me.
The eyes scattered across the skin represent my own consciousness, the evidence and knowledge of what is happening, and why. I'm a person prone to somatization; my stress and anguish translate into pain and illness for no physical reason.
I'm currently in a fairly stable place; I have been for a few years, when I learned that it's okay to ask for help, that I don't always have to be strong, and that being vulnerable is not a bad thing. That's why I decided to capture all of this in one of my works.
ART SUPPLIES USED
I painted this piece with the lightfast premium watercolors Schmincke Horadam, Sennelier and QoR, on acid free, 100% cotton, cold-press 300gr watercolor paper by the brand Arches. And, at the end, I sprayed this painting with a few layers of Krylon UV resistant coating for its optimal preservation.
