ABOUT THE PAINTING
Since Chávez won the 1998 presidential election, Venezuela has been under a socialist/communist regime. When Chávez died in 2013, the ruling party painted his eyes everywhere, around the entire country; They took Orwell's 1984 quite literally, with Big Brother always watching us even after death. Since 2013, Venezuela has been under the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro, Chávez's chosen one.
In a country of 30 million inhabitants, almost 8 million of them have left the country due to the horror. The irony? Venezuela is the country with the largest oil reserves in the world; We are a territory rich in minerals, but we don't have gasoline, electricity, or water. The country that in the past was one of the most prosperous in Latin America, and which received endless immigrants of all nationalities, finds itself alone in the midst of attacks of xenophobia from all its neighbors; Apparently crimes against humanity only arouse empathy when they happen to the other side of the world.
The horror is in our dead, murdered by Maduro in the protests; the lack of medicine, the food shortage, the weeks without electricity in the large national blackouts of 2019. For a year I had daily power cuts of 12 hours, my state is one of the hottest in the country, we had to take out the mattresses and sleep out in the open, like animals. The horror of a lifetime full of fear, of lost opportunities.
And as I write this I have no electricity; poetic, in a way.
ART SUPPLIES USED
I painted this piece with the lightfast premium watercolors Schmincke Horadam, Sennelier and QoR, on acid free, 100% cotton, hot-press 300gr watercolor paper by the brand Arches. And, at the end, I sprayed this painting with a few layers of Krylon UV resistant coating for its optimal preservation.
SHIPPING
All paintings are shipped within the first 2 to 5 days through Zoom Red, a Venezuelan ally of DHL, with their respective tracking number. Zoom Red is in charge of taking the package from my town to the capital, Caracas, where it will be handed over to DHL, who is in charge of the international shipping. Due to strict international shipping measures from Venezuela, the full name (first name, middle name and last name), telephone number, and an official document number (driver's license, passport, etc.) of the person making the order is required.
